Micol and Andrea, the exciting number of the Turin couple on Tu si que vales

Channel 5, "Tu si que vales": Turin acrobats thrill with number created during lockdown.

“Tu si que vales,” Turin acrobats Veglia and Cerrato enchant everyone

The two acrobats won the unanimity of the jury and almost all of the audience on the episode of Tu si si que vales aired Saturday, Oct. 11, with an unprecedented paired Roue Cyr performance made during the lockdown, taking advantage of the forced break in their respective international tours

The episode of Tu si si que vales on Saturday, Oct. 10, opened with a performance by a pair of acrobats from Turin: Micol Veglia and Andrea Cerrato, also together in life who enchanted the judges and the audience with a thrilling Roue Cyr number, the now well-known Canadian wheel invented by Daniel Cyr.

Andrea, 31, is one of the top Italian performers of this discipline with whom until before the lockdown he was engaged in major international productions such as “Le Cirque With The World’s Top Performers” and “Circo Zoè” sharing the stage with world-renowned artists such as Anatoly Zalievsky, Viktor Kee and Yves Decoste. Two years ago he won a Guinness World Record on the program hosted by Enrico Papi, completing 48 consecutive laps on the floor in 30 seconds, making the figure known in technical jargon as “the coin,” beating the previous record (45 laps in 30 seconds) held by a Chinese colleague. Partner Micol, 29, is an aerial acrobat with a long background in artistic gymnastics, before joining the Sonics and later the Swiss company Finzi Pasca , with whom she was touring until last February.

“This issue is new to us; we created it because of the lockdown. Although we have been engaged for two years we see each other very little during the year, we are always on tour, maybe in different countries, we manage to spend little time together – Micol and Andrea explain – The lockdown was an opportunity to create a number together, train together and develop exercises and figures in pairs. The proposal of Tu si si que vales gave us the impetus to intensify training and create a new number that is now in its infancy but that we would like to refine and improve. The good feedback from the TV passage encourages us to pursue this project in pairs.”

Micol and Andrea’s number, which brings to the stage their relationship, the feeling that unites them, and the passion that brought them together, was the first of the evening, an episode that won the audience battle with competing networks, registering a 24.52 percent share for a total of 4,357,000 viewers. An intense and exciting performance that convinced the four judges Maria De Filippi, Gerry Scotti, Rudy Zerbi and Teo Mammuccari (4 “vale” obtained) as well as the studio audience, with 99% in their favor. The judges had words of praise for them, not only with respect to the technique brought to the stage, but also and especially the emotions conveyed.

For Micol, accustomed to flying, to performing dizzying evolutions at great heights, it was a new challenge to try her hand at the Canadian wheel, a double challenge considering a recent injury she sustained in Mexico during a performance as a result of which she ruptured ligaments. After the initial discouragement Micol did not give up, did rehabilitation and then resumed training to get back on the scene as soon as possible and launching herself into this new venture.

Today Micol and Andrea feel, like almost all artists engaged in live entertainment, the devastating effects of the pandemic: “Participation in the Channel 5 show gave us the opportunity to return to the stage ,” Andrea and Micol recount. We needed it, for spirit and for body. As a result of the virus, all our contracts for the next few months are blown, tours are cut short and postponed until spring, shows canceled. Let us use this period to continue training, work on upcoming creations, and hope to present to a large live audience as soon as possible. We have many projects and new ideas just waiting to be able to see the light.”. The Turin Gazette
